The April Races
At Goodwood on Easter Monday some excellent racing should be seen. Entries for the Richmond Trophy Race include Abecassis’ new G.P. Alta, R. E. Ansell’s 16-valve Maserati, G. Ansell’s E.R.A., Whitehead’s E-Type E.R.A., Murray’s Maserati, Parnell’s latest Maserati, Ashmore’s Maserati, Hamilton’s Maserati, Rolt’s Alfa-Romeo, Harrison’s E.R.A., Gales’ Darracq, Baring’s Maserati, Gerard’s E.R.A., Salvadori’s Maserati and Johnson’s E-Type E.R.A. The Chichester Cup Race for cars over 1,450-c.c. has brought in entries from Mann (Alfa-Romeo), Poore (Alfa-Romeo), Hutchison (Alfa-Romeo), together with the drivers already mentioned. 500-c.c. cars will be raced by Moss, Brandon, Samuelson, Lord Strathcarron, and others, A record crowd is to be expected — our advice is, get to the circuit early! The B.B.C. will broadcast from Goodwood.
For Jersey, on April 28th, the B.A.R.C. has received entries from all those drivers down to compete in the above-mentioned Goodwood Trophy Race, so another classic long-distance race is assured.
On April 16th the Bristol M.C. & L.C.C. holds its Lulsgate airfield races for 500-c.c. racing cars and sports cars, but only members and friends may spectate.
For its Eastbourne Rally on April 9th/10th, the Bentley Drivers’ Club had received 55 entries as we closed for press, including six Police School entries, six Lagondas, five Lancias and two Frazer-Nashes. The police are taking the event very seriously and are preparing a Jowett Javelin, a Railton, two 2 1/2-litre Rileys and two Humber “Super Snipes.”
