Formula 1: Good month, bad month — July 2023
Charting the ups and downs of the F1 circus
Good Month
Super Yuki
Super Yuki Tsunoda was on hand to help clean up after the terrible floods in Italy. Some heroes wear AlphaTauri-branded clothing.
Aston Martin LaHonda
Honda announced its Aston engine tie-up for 2026, meaning it’s on schedule to leave F1 in 2029.
Ocon supreme
Ocon gets people’s backs up, but a brilliant third in Monaco silenced some doubters.
God Save JYS
Nothing summed F1 up like Jackie Stewart being manhandled by security in Miami. Still got hold of Roger Federer for a Martin Brundle interview though.
Changing of guard
Naomi Schiff has proved to be a brilliant addition to the Sky Sports F1 team, along with strategy analyst Bernie Collins.
Bad Month
Rossi rampage
Alpine CEO Laurent Rossi hauling his own promising team over coals in public was bizarre, as Ocon’s Monaco podium showed.
Walk of Cringe
The Miami driver intros were so bad they were good. Or just bad. Not sure we know anymore.
Miami Vice
Some more turquoise and pink on all those one-off Miami helmets please – not.
Dropping the ball
Alonso’s dodgy Monaco tyre call may have cost him his only chance to win of the season.
Pot, kettle, Verstappen
Verstappen accusing Russell of dodgy driving in Baku somewhat takes the biscuit. Slightly hypocritical.
